The weather in Bloomington

This blog is not an official Department of State website and the views and information presented are my own and do not represent the Fulbright Program or the Department of State.

Before coming to Bloomington, I someone who knew the town. She pointed out that it doesn't matter if I like the weather or not because it will change in 5 minutes.
I tought she was exagerating.
However, being here for a month now I realise how right she was.
The weather is hot and humid but rain and Tornado alerts may come abruptly. One day, as we were walking towards the bus station from the School of Education's building it started raining and as we turned back and walked two steps - it stopped. It reminded me of the  Israeli folk dance "Hora" or the Arabic one, the "Debka":

Hora - A step forward and few backwards...

And then,,,,, a tornado alert. We recieved the alert on our smartphones. Everyone at the bus station just looked at each other and didn't know how to react and what to do, Suddenly, there was also a siren warning.

My heart started pounding. I'm used to sirens in a different context; I'm used to hear that horrible noise whenever groups of Pelestinians from Gaza strip ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/10/AR2005081000713.html ) decideds to shoot rockets on Israeli citizens.

At that point we decided to turn back and run for shelter where we joined other students waiting for word we can get out. We passed the time talking with a nice youg student who surprised me by saying she studies Yiddish!!! (Along lost Jewish language - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yiddish).
After about 20 minutes we were able to head back home, mot before having to wait for another bus because the one that was in the station didn't recieve the OK to leave.

13/9/2016
Since Sept 1st we can feel the change. The leaves started to fall and the mornings are cooler.
Coming from a country with only 2 seasons, following this change is interesting.
I will post some photos in the near future.
